Oakley’s original Thump flash-based MP3 player was seen being worn by bounty hunter “Dog” Chapman and Manny Ramirez. But, the sunglasses seemed to be more of a fashion statement rather than a well-designed mp3 player. The latest version, the Oakley Thump 2, improves upon the original in a couple of ways, but ultimately they look very un-Oakley. Thump 2’s 1GB model is selling for $449 direct and are way more comfortable than the original. But PCMag.com found that there’s no repeat setting, no flip-up lenses, and a disappointing short battery life. They’re still cool nonetheless.

They are nice, they are cool and they seem comfortable. But still it doesn’t strike me as the right combination.

I want these. Better still, I want the DVD-player version. Even better still, I want the cam-version as worn by Arnie in True Lies, so I can watch my teenage daughter stealing tobacco from my handbag while I’m in the kitchen. Oh yes.
