The new Power Mac G5 Quad can have up to two processors, each with a dual-core. That’s a 4 CPU monster that will sell for $3299.
Don’t expect the machine to be four times as fast, however. For most users, a multi-core CPU will make the system more responsive and a small number of applications faster. Multi-Processors is bottle necked by the inability of software to take advantage of it.
But according to Apple, these are performance gains you’ll get:


*Shrug* Except for the higher price to pay, 4 is without doubt better than 2, or even 1.

Like you said, this model is practically useless to 95% of the population on this planet, software that fully makes use of Mac multiprocessors are virtually non-existent. A complete waste of money for most people. Wait until next year when the Intel Macs come out and then…maybe, buy a new mac.
