Not exactly news but worthy of a mention. The new Mercedes Benz S-Class W221, released a couple of months ago, sports a really cool LCD dashboard instead of the traditional analogue one. At night, the display can be switched to the Night Vision Assist mode, which uses infrared lights to capture whatever is happening in front of the car onto the LCD display.
What the AutoSpies guys say:
“When the salesman activated it, I swear I thought I was going to have to change my pants…WOW! You will absolutely lose it when you see this for the first time. It’s worth taking a trip to the dealer just to see that. It’s like taking a journey into the future on some star trek like space ship!”
On the center of the dashboard is another large LCD display, which displays information from the COMAND (yes, single ‘M’) system. This includes audio, video, navigation, phone, climate control, etc.
If a luxury car is what you’re looking for, there’s no doubt that the new S-Class is one of the coolest around.

the lcd dashboard is cool but the night assist is a total GIMICK (yes 1 ‘M’ :P) says Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear (UK).

The headlamps are there for 2 purposes: for you to see the road, and for others to see you. So if you can already see the road clearly, then perhaps just leave it on for others to see you!
By the way, wonder what happens if the car’s parked under hot sun in a country where it’s summer all day long. the LCD loses its liquid?

Mercedes are in a class of there own, the frankly stupid people who think BMW come even close are just dillusioned. I have owned 5 S-classes in the past 8 years and will be getting this one ASAP!!
