The best out there, and one of the very first. The Pioneer BDP-HD1 Blu-ray player comes with a huge $1,800 price tag and is expected to be available in May this year.
The player is capable of playing back dual-layer (50GB) Blu-ray disc, and delivers 1920 x 1080p output (the highest of the three HD signals). The player also comes with a single High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) jack to ensure the best quality in picture and sound. Video format supported includes BD-RE, BD-R, BD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, +R, +RW, and WMV.
The audio department looks good too, with support for DTS-HD and Dolby Digital. The player is also able to playback WMA (DRM compatible), MP3, as well as LPCM audio files.
Additionally, the player comes with IP networking capabilities, which allows delivering of HD content directly through the player instead of a computer.
All in all, a great player. But with a price tag like this, only the most hardcore home theater junkie will ever own one.
