Intel Drops "Pentium" from their future processors

The name synonymous with the world’s most popular chip maker will be gone very soon.

Intel will be dropping the Pentium name without making any major announcement, but simply transiting to new processor names such as “Intel D 920″ or “Intel 672″ without introducing a new brand. Apparently, this transition is scheduled to start right in the immediate future. Intel has already informed OEM’s manufacturers that the Pentium brand will be dropped.

So don’t be surprised if your next notebook or desktop doesn’t come with the name Pentium.
