Down under in Sydney, University of New South Wales, 22-year-old student Stuart Calvey’s invention might just breathe new life into the almost-dead postcard.
It will revolutionize the way people uses postcards, and the postal system.
Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting to you, the Snap+Send Postcard.
Buy it at around AUD$25 at a newsagent, photo store, or maybe even a convenience store. Take some shots with Snap+Send (it’ll have 2 megapixels) and send it off with a stamp, and the recipient can then watch a slideshow of the images.
No delete, no zoom, but it’s still very cool.
Calvey’s Snap+Send Postcard, a disposable digital camera, is so light and inexpensive it can be sent in the mail. All it needs is a stamp. “You would buy it at a newsagent or photo developer, take a few shots and, once it’s full, you stick a stamp on it, address it and put it in the postbox,” Calvey says.
“Then grandma, or your girlfriend, gets it. They tear open the perforations, fold out a little kick stand on the back and sit it on a bench top. Then it’s as simple as pressing a button and it will go through a slide show of images.”
Calvey says he’d rather keep the rights to his idea for showing to potential employers than to sell it. Well, you know what to do if you want to be that potential employer!

[…] To see a collection of other designs by UNSW 2005 Industrial Design students, check here. On the same note, I interviewed a couple of industrial design students showcasing their graduation projects when I was still at the uni. And I have to say that I’ve seen some rather impressive ideas floating around, even though as Calvery puts it, still a concept. [via HipTechBlog.com] […]
