Computer

Here’s Samsung Q1, the Korean giant’s UMPC.

Take a tablet notebook PC, make it smaller and touch-screen-only, then throw in goodies such as DMB, and you get the new Ultra-Mobile Portable Computer (UMPC), previously codenamed ‘Origami’. The key features of the UMPCs lie in the capability of running a full-fledged Windows XP Tablet PC Edition (slightly modified) while keeping relatively small, weighing just two pounds with a 7-inch touch-screen.

Other highlight features of the UMPC are connectivity (Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth), option for GPS, 2.5-3 hours of battery life and virtual touch-screen keyboard.

Samsung, Taiwan’s Asus, and China’s second largest PC-maker, the Founder Group, are expected to be the first three companies to release UMPCs. And Samsung’s offering is likely to go on sale very soon during April, with a possible price of $599 to $999.
