It’s about time Sony enters the digital SLR (DSLR) realm. Following Sony’s recent buy-out of Konica-Minolta, the electronics giant has given the branding name of ‘Alpha’ (signified by the ‘alpha’ sign pictured on the right) to its DSLR line of cameras. This is perhaps a gesture to provide a sense of continuation from Konica-Minolta’s existing Alpha(Asia) / Maxxum(North America) / Dynax(Europe) branding.
Sony will be producing a whole range of DSLR components, including bodies and lenses, CMOS and CCD imaging sensors and accessories. The good news for existing Konica-Minolta DSLR users is that these components will all be compatible with your current cameras. So if Sony really does manage to dish out a strong range of DSLR cameras, Konica-Minolta users would be glad to know that they have some good cameras to upgrade to while keeping their accessories.
No words on when the cameras will officially launch. So let’s sit tight and keep our eyes fixed on Sony’s ‘Alpha’ DSLR website, which is ironically in a very ‘alpha’ stage of development at the moment.
