Every now and then, I’m sure you do feel the urge to smash your mobile for its non-stop ringing. The freedom of being reachable anywhere in the country (or even anywhere in the world) has instead compromised the freedom of not wanting to be reached anytime and anywhere. But if you can’t bear to smash your own phone, your chance to legally smash someone else’s is here.
On August 20, the seventh annual UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships 2006 will be held in London, where anyone who pays the entry fee of £5 can get three throws of supplied mobile phones. Great deal I say, and you’ll be doing a good deed, as all proceeds will go to charity.
But if claiming the championship title is your aim, better start practicing now, as the current world record is standing at 94.97m.
While you are at it, do bring along your dusty StarTacs as donations to the ActionAid Recycling.
