Love ultraslim phones? Love taking photos with your phone? You’ll love Samsung, as they have announced their new 3-megapixel CMOS sensor that is smaller than current technology. It allows the camera module’s size to be reduced by as much as 30 percent.
According to Samsung, it is achieved by using 1.75um pixel (instead of 2.25um pixel) together with Samsung’s proprietary 90nm copper technology. The copper technology maximizes the light-gathering efficiency, negating the potential decline of image quality when using 1.75um pixel.
Samsung expects to mass produce the sensors in the first quarter of 2007. And we expect thinner, sexier, 3-megapixel camera phones in 2007.
