There are two reasons why Mac users still uses Boot Camp to play their games instead of using Parallels Desktop for Mac. One, the performance is much better. Two, Parallels simply can’t do OpenGL and DirectX 3D gaming. But with the upcoming Parallels 3.0, the latter is no longer true! You can finally do 3D gaming without ever rebooting out of OS X.

“As promised, here are some shots of Half-Life 2 running in my Windows VM on my MacBook Pro. If I find some time this weekend, I’ll shoot some YouTube videos of these apps running so you can see how fast they fly.”
- Parallels official blog

I’m really interested to “see how fast they fly.”

Another great feature in Parallels 3.0 is the SmartSelect. It allows you to open a file in either a OS X or Windows program directly, skipping the hassle of having to run the Windows program first and opening the file from it.

The new version will be available in a few weeks, with a new copy costing US$79.99 and an upgrade costing US$49.99. But if you purchase the upgrade before June 6, you’ll knock US$10 off the tag.

Gaming on a Mac has just gotten better!
