Ford understands that safety for the back seat passengers is just as important. After all in a typical family ride, the youth and the aged are the ones back there. And seeing how air bag technology at the front seats has proven to be great at reducing injuries, it’s not surprising that Ford is having plans to bring this technology to the back.

Coming in the form of inflatable seat belts, Ford’s latest safety concept has the potential to significantly reduce injuries. A tubular inflatable bag inside the shoulder belt inflates upon a vehicle crash, protecting the passenger’s head and neck by limiting forward motion. Together with the lap belt, the tightening of the belts also provides the benefit of positioning the passenger in relation to other safety devices in the vehicle.

I’m sure if Ford can prove on paper that the inflatable seat belt works, we’ll be seeing them equipped on vehicles very soon. After all it’s just air bag technology.
