Break away from the uninspiring LCD monitor plastic that we’ve gotten so used to, get the Bamboo LCD Monitors from PlayEngine. Especially good if your home is furnished with a strong hint of brown.

The monitors comes in 15-inch, 17-inch and 19-inch, with the 19-inch having a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, a contrast ratio of 700:1 and a response time of 8ms. Not shabby at all! And the bamboos are supposedly treated for rot resistance, so no worries that your precious LCD will start rotting.

The price of the 15-inch is £239 (US$436), while the 17-inch is £264 (US$482), and finally the 19-inch goes for £323 (US$589).

Measuring 270.5 x 180.0 x 4.50 mm and weighing 183 gram, the LCD is about 32% lighter than currently breed of LCD.

According to the two Japanese electronics giant (Toshiba and Matsushita), the LCD is already in production, but there are no words on when we can expect to see them in the market. I reckon we’ll see them first on laptops and monitors.

If you’ve been contemplating of spoiling yourself with a 30-inch LCD monitor, here’s a little help for you. The two most notable 30-inch LCD monitor currently in the market are the Apple Cinema HD Display that was released in 2004, and the Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP that was launched less than three months ago. And thanks to CNET who made a comparison between these two models, we buyers can now decide where to throw our notes.

For the Apple Cinema HD Display, CNET found that its DVD-playback image quality is good, that it has more vivid colors and that its grayscale differentiation is better. As for the UltraSharp 3007WFP, CNET says its advantages lies in having more options to fiddle with, better text performance and letting us save a good $300.

Verdict: Rich men should go for Dell. Even richer men should go for Apple.
